Getting Out Of Reverse

Last time on La Femme Nikita, Madeline and Operations were trying their hardest to keep Michael and Nikita apart for fear of the power that they have when they are totally together. The solution they came up with was to put Nikita on the Gelman Process which reprogrammed Nikita's mind into becoming the perfect Section soldier and forgetting her love for Michael. In fact, she is no longer capable of forming an emotional bond with anyone. Michael still does not know exactly what is going on but he is determined to find out. On their first mission, Operations and Madeline decide that they need to test Nikita to make sure the process is working. The mission is to go get a level four Section operative Irina Kerensky, who was taken hostage after coming back from a high level briefing. When Nikita finds Irina in an embassy, she cannot get her out of the cell they have her in. She suggests incineration of the embassy and Irina to have 100 percent containment. Operations and Madeline tell Nikita to go ahead while Michael is trying to come up with a plan to save Irina plus a group of children who are inside the embassy. Nikita does not care and sets the charges but Michael sets off the fire alarms to get the children out. The building blows up and now Operations and Madeline know that Nikita is totally under their control. Michael goes to talk to Nikita about what is happening to her but she tries to convince him that she is fine. Michael knows that this is not his Nikita so he gets Birkoff to run some tests on her eye movements. Birkoff finds that the irregularities in Nikita's eye movements suggested neural engineering. Four years ago, Operations approved a research proposal based on the work of a neuro-biologist called Ross Gelman. He doesn’t know if Gelman’s methods were used on Nikita but if they were, he'd look for someone who's been close to her. Not just at Section, but at home because the process requires maintenance. Michael goes to Nikita's apartment and finds out that Mick Schtoppel was the one who has been helping to keep Nikita on the Gelman process. Michael then decides to find Dr. Gelman during his next mission. Gelman tells Michael that the process is reversible but he needs the program and that is inside Section with the original test subject. Then a sniper kills Dr. Gelman. Nikita tells Operations and Madeline that Michael knows what is going on so they send Davenport to Michael's office to cancel him. Luckily Michael was not inside.

There Are No Missions

Three days ago, Michael went rogue when he learned of Operations and Madeline's decision to have him cancelled. Because of who he is, it’s not likely they are going to be able to find him anytime soon. They do believe that he might try to contact Nikita and when he does, Nikita is ordered to kill him. Michael contacts Nikita and asks her to bring him a formatted capture card. Operations and Madeline tell her to do it to gain his confidence so she can kill him. Section sends out a team to capture Michael but he was distracting them in order to sneak underneath a Section car to get himself inside Section without anyone knowing. Inside Section, Michael confronts Nikita again and she tries to shoot him. ("You don’t belong here anymore, Michael.") Michael gets her access card and heads to the Cryogenics Lab to retrieve the Gelman file and test subject, who is revealed to be Adrian, the mother of Section One that they captured at the end of season two. With the help of Birkoff, Michael gets Adrian out of Section and with the help of Mick he gets her to a motel. Operations and Madeline do not think that Adrian will be a threat because they think she is a vegetable. But Nikita goes with Mick to see Michael and finds that Adrian is alive and aware but what she doesn't know is that Adrian doesn't know who she is. Michael lets Nikita go to tell Operations and Madeline what she saw. Meanwhile a new recruit, Dori does not want to be in Section and does not believe that she can't escape and if she does she will be cancelled. She thinks she has found an exit on level 20 but when she makes her way up there, she finds out the exit is a hologram. Madeline finds her up there and it seems that Madeline puts her under the Gelman Process too.

View Of The Garden

Inside Michael's new hideout, he is trying to get Adrian to remember who she is. She seems to be remembering some things like George. Michael is trying to get in touch with George because if he knew that Adrian was alive and that Section One had her, he would be very pissed and probably cancel Operations and Madeline. Walter and Birkoff help Michael to get George inside Section One by issuing a type Y directive. ("Who would you rather be killed by, Operations or Michael?") While George is inside, Michael puts Adrian on all the Section monitors so that George will see her. Unfortunately, Operations distracts George so that he never sees Adrian. Back at the hideout, an assault team enters and tries to kill Michael. Michael defeats them all but learns that they are Adrian's men and Adrian has been faking her memory loss this whole time. She is not sure if she can help Nikita. The secret is resistance. It's a question of will. If he can localize the similar emotions, something she cares deeply about, she might be able to fight it. They set up a way to get Nikita and when he captures her, he brings her back to his hideout. Back at Section, Operations and Madeline are still afraid that Michael will contact George. ("It's remarkable. We did everything right, yet we lost.") They decide the only way to keep themselves alive is to kill George. They hire the Asni group to do the assassination when George is in transit. But Michael gets there just in time to save George even though George never knows it was Michael who saved him. When Michael gets back to Adrian, he finds that she has relapsed and can't remember anything anymore. He then takes her to a supervised care home for her own health and safety. Then Michael takes Nikita back to Section. He wants Nikita back on the maintenance drugs or he will tell George about Adrian. He also wants his job back. It's a stalemate.

Into The Looking Glass

Nikita is still on the Gelman process and in seven days the conversion will be irreversible. Luckily, Michael gets a disk from Adrian telling him that he can save Nikita. His primary focus will be stimulating obstructing emotions like sympathy, fear, and love. Operations and Madeline are still worried about anyone knowing that Adrian is alive. They try to threaten Michael but it doesn't work. ("You're not afraid to die, are you Michael?" "No. You've seen to that.") They then decide to keep Michael busy until the process with Nikita is complete. Nikita's next mission goes bad and she was ID'd and has a hit squad after her which Michael set up to happen. This is so he can kidnap Nikita without anyone knowing so that he can cure her. He asks Birkoff to handle the mission he was supposed to be on so he can have time with Nikita. Birkoff agrees and Walter comes along to help. They meet up with Terragamo pretending to be couriers and take down him and his men. Meanwhile, Michael has Nikita at his hideout and is trying to get her past the drug withdrawals to help her deprogram. At one point she gets away but Michael convinces her to come back and let him help her. When he gets her back inside, he places her in the sensory deprivation tube or love slinky and "stimulates" her with some great lovemaking. Nikita seems to be cured now and loves Michael again. ("I'd rather die than go back now." "Don't say that." "Why?" "Because I can't live without you.") Michael and Nikita then head back to Section. Nikita tells Madeline that Michael kidnapped her and tried to deprogram her but it didn't work. But when Nikita later sees Michael they touch hands and you know she is not under the process any longer.

Man In The Middle

Madeline and Operations know that Nikita is off the Gelman process. They need another way to keep them apart so they decide that Nikita will be perfect for the next mission. Wolfgang Volker is the founder and chief operating officer of Volkwerks Industries, the second largest small arms manufacturer on the continent. His son, Helmut Volker has acquired some very interesting friends all with known ties to Red Cell. Now that Helmut is working for his father, Section predicts a better than 90 percent probability that a move will be made by Red Cell to acquire some extremely sophisticated weaponry from Helmut. To get into Helmut circle, Nikita and Michael will pose as Anna Gunther and Frederick Kraus, heroin dealers and lovers. ("You always take me to such nice places, Michael.") Helmut is quite taken with Nikita and has them stay another day to do business then. He even sneaks into Michael and Nikita's room at night trying to flirt with Nikita. The next morning they all go to the shooting range ("Beginner's luck.") and then head to Helmut's office to make the deal. ("It’s a lot of money, Freddie." "It’s a lot of heroin, Helmut.") After the deal Michael distract Helmut so that Nikita can get into his safe. ("Karyn thinks my dress is tacky. What do you think?" "It is.") Helmut finds Nikita in his office and says that he cannot inherit his father's extreme wealth until he is married. Then he asks Nikita to marry him. Operations and Madeline want her to accept his proposal to marry him and stay in this mission indefinitely. Michael is determined to find a way to stop this and tries to blow up a supply truck so that Red Cell will stop doing business with Helmut. If Helmut fails with Red Cell, he’ll no longer be of use to them and then the marriage will be pointless. But Davenport interferes and stops the bomb from going off. Nikita and Helmut jet off and get married.

Love, Honor, And Cherish

Now married, Nikita and Helmut go to meet his father. While there, some masked men attack Helmut and Nikita decides there is more to him than meets the eye. It turns out that Helmut is a special agent that works for Interpol. He just pretends to be the black sheep rich kid moving in the fast lane. His family does not know about this. The attack was orchestrated by Helmut's brother Kristof, to get Helmut out of the way so he could sell the weapons to Red Cell. Section kills Kristof and Nikita goes to make sure nothing happens to Helmut during his meeting with Red Cell. He learns that they’re planning to hit The Hague tomorrow. Helmut wants to stop it but Section wants them to succeed so that Kalstrom, whom they really want, will not go back into hiding. Even though Interpol tells Helmut not to interfere, he goes anyways to stop the attack. Nikita follows him because she knows that Section will try to kill him so that the attack takes place. She catches up with Helmut first, they diffuse the bomb, and she tells him he has to leave. He trusts her enough to leave and to shoot her in the arm so that she will not get in trouble with Section. Given Red Cell's failure to succeed at The Hague, Eric Kalstrom hasn’t resurfaced. Helmut Volker, after killing four operatives and wounding one, has apparently left the country.

Sympathy For The Devil

Willie Kane was in Operations'(Paul L. Wolfe's) Platoon when he served in Vietnam. In late 1972, his platoon was on routine maneuvers near Chin Duc when they were ambushed. They were captured by Phan Van Nahn. For 15 days, they were tortured and beaten and Willie is the reason why Operations believed he survived. Over the past 25 years, he has kept tabs on Willie but he got into drugs and drinking after the war. Now someone is trying to kill Willie and Operations wants Nikita and Michael to find out who it is and keep it from happening. If they do this for him, he will give them 15 days to be alone together. Nikita and Michael pose as a married couple and rent an apartment next to Willie's. They talk to Willie and quickly become friends. When thugs attack Willie, they find out that Carlos Bonaventure is after Willie but he is not sure why. They also find out that Willie is paying Phan Van Nahn, the man that held him and Operations captive all those years ago. Meanwhile, Birkoff finds out that he has a twin brother Jason. His mother Lisa was a Section One operative who was brought in pregnant with them. She was killed in a mission in Sofia when Seymour and Jason were young. In an experiment, Section let Jason live on the outside to compare Jason's life on the outside with Seymour's on the inside. Unfortunately, it was Walter who got to choose which brother stayed inside Section. He flipped a coin and Seymour lost. Birkoff then gets mad at Walter for what he did. While Nikita and Michael are inside Section, Walter asks them to shake Willie up so he leaves and disappears for Operation's sake. Michael pays Phan Van Nahn a visit, takes him to Willie's, and finds out that Willie told Phan Van Nahn and the V.C. the exact time and place his platoon would be on the road so that they would not torture him. Operations has no clue about this. Willie then kills Phan Van Nahn. When Nikita and Michael leave, Bonaventure's thugs kidnap Willie. Operations then goes to see Bonaventure to get him to let Willie go and forget about him or else Operations will kill his entire organization starting with his nephew. ("This dump might be your house, Carlo. Everything else, everything outside this door, that’s mine.") Operations goes to visit a now free Willie [hehe] but when he does, Willie is shot and killed by someone outside. The shooter is Walter because he does not want Operations to find out that Willie was not a hero. Operations thinks it was Bonaventure and has his organization wiped out. Nikita and Michael decide that they will take their 15 vacation days at another time.

Down A Crooked Path

An unidentified gas somehow got into the east portal at Section One. Luckily, Birkoff was able to invert the air vents. But George thinks Section One was compromised by the breach in security and so he is sending a biomed team in to examine them all starting with department heads and key operatives. Walter is the first to be examined. During his examination he sees flashbacks of past episodes. The biomed team says he has been infected and his mind is wiped clean. Next Nikita goes in for the checkup, hallucinates past episodes, and the biomed team says she is infected. Operations and Madeline think that all this might be George's doing because he wants Operations and Madeline disposed of. Also the biomed team is doing nothing to cure them. But they can't show that they know and so Operations goes into see the biomed techs, hallucinates past episodes, and is diagnosed as infected. Michael gets Birkoff to connect to the biomed techs mainframes to see if they are the ones behind the infections. Birkoff finds that there is no real virus. The biomed techs are under the orders of a Black Directive, a cancellation order with all their names on it. He also finds out that George is trying to steal their minds to extract their expertise. By harvesting their consciousnesses, George will be able to build a tactical library. Once he's done, he'll exercise the ultimate power. Nonresistant Section operatives with years of training at the touch of a button. But this can all be reversed if they can come up with a way to block the process. Madeline goes in next and becomes "infected". Birkoff thinks he might have the cure but the only way to know for sure is to have Michael test it when he goes into see the techs. Michael goes in after Birkoff is "infected" and the techs start the process. But luckily for Michael, Birkoff's cure works and he gets up and kills one tech and makes the other one call George and say the plan worked. George comes into Section One and Michael tasers him. Then he uploads everyone else's memories back into their bodies. When Operations wakes up he makes sure to subject George to the process to make sure George doesn't know that he failed.

Janis Strait has it and he is planning on using the command clone to leverage his way up the ranks of Red Cell. Section One goes to take back the command clone but when they enter the building they find everyone dead, even Janis Strait. Since George thinks that Operations has intentionally sabotaged the mission, he is sending someone to supervise the search from Section Four which is into telekinetics and visual projection. George sends a ten year old boy named Jerome into Section to help them. Jerome goes with Madeline to use his abilities on objects from Red Cell's substations to try to get a sense from them and find out who took the command clone. Madeline makes Jerome upset and he almost hurts her. But he does finally give them the name of Simmons but Birkoff researches the name and finds out Simmons died two years ago. Operations brings Mick in and Mick tells him that he got his information from Varsac. When they capture Varsac, they find out he used the alias of Simmons before. Madeline then interrogates Varsac but does not get any answers. Jerome comes in and wants to question Varsac himself. Jerome and Madeline fight again and Jerome ends up killing Varsac with his mind but he gets the info that they need. A new organization called Global March has the c-clone. They take Jerome on the mission to retrieve the c-clone but Jerome jumps out of the mission van because he wants to play like a normal kid. When they get him back into the van, he crashes it. Fortunately, no one died and they bring Jerome back to Section. Michael gets the c-clone and brings it back to Section. Madeline locks Jerome up but he uses his mind to make the guards let him out of his cell. He takes over the mainframe then tries to kill Operations. Nikita talks Jerome into stopping and takes him back to his room. When Jerome leaves, he tells Operations and Madeline that there never was any c-clone test. He was the test. It should have been him they were worried about not some command program. Then he leaves Section in a little glass box.

Operations calls and tells them that their clock has been moved up and they need those recruits out in the field in two days even though they are not ready. But what he doesn't tell them is that their mission was leaked to Crystal Sky so he is sending Davenport and team to eliminate the faction, except for their leader, Doc Leshem. On the mission, Davenport's team gets Leshem but Nikita and Michael are kidnapped. As for the recruits, Neil died and some are injured but they decide that they are going to go rescue Michael and Nikita. They succeed and everyone goes back to Section One. Later that night, they find that all the town's folk are gathered in the church watching a film about how to play baseball. When everyone leaves, they go in to confront the preacher and find out that him and the whole town are operatives of Chornish Sturm aka Black Storm. The town is a sleeper base which is a place where they train their agents to look, act, think and breathe just like the locals so they can become spies. Corman finds out that the satellite was crashed on purpose by Oversight to provide the enemy with useless intel that will distract them for years. Michael and Nikita were sent in to make it look like they were trying their best to get it back. Operations wants Michael and Nikita to fail and get killed in the process. Operations kills Corman for finding this out and so he can't tell Nikita and Michael. The town’s folk try to capture and kill them when they try to get the satellite but Michael and Nikita are too good and get away. Next they see Davenport who tells them that they need the postman to get away with the database from the satellite but Michael had already set the database to blow up. Operations gets yelled at for the mission failure and Section 6 replaces all the Black Storm operatives with operatives of their own. Once she is inside, Michael reminds her to take the anti-psychotic drug, halomine so she can regain her senses and contact David French. She finds David and makes first contact by reminding him that his mother knows what he is up to. Nikita goes to take the second pill but finds it missing. Nikita is then told to break David down more so he will tell them where the anthrax is located. She finds out that the anthrax is where the bulls run. Davenport and his team goes out to find it while Michael goes in to extract Nikita. But the team does not find the drug so Michael must leave Nikita inside a while longer. Jason is getting used to Section. He now has level one corneal access. Things are going smoothly until he sees that his old girlfriend, Naomi, has been brought into Section. They have her there to blackmail Jason into acting like his brother Birkoff to fool everyone in Center so he can be Operations' eyes and ears inside Center. If he does this, Naomi gets to live. What he doesn't know is that Naomi was a Section operative all along. He complies and they change him to look completely like Birkoff. Meanwhile, Maurice Grenet has replaced the Cardinal of Red Cell. Tomorrow, his daughter Iriana, is getting married in the coastal city of Bizerte in Tunisia. Section believes Maurice will be in attendance and they want him taken out. On the mission, Nikita is supposed to kill Grenet but fails because it seems like someone shot her first. Michael finds out the shot hardly did any damage and get suspicious of Nikita. He sees her meet with Grenet and confronts her at dinner. She admits she shot herself and tells Michael that Grenet has agreed to get her out of Section. She drugs Michael and takes him to meet Grenet. He takes Michael and gives Nikita Michael's iris scan so she can get into secured areas and he also gives her the proper codes to sink her files. After she does, she heads to Grenet's plastic surgeon to change her appearance so she won't be detected. Meanwhile, Michael is being held by Red Cell. He fakes being hurt, gets out, and goes back to Section. He tells Operations what has happened. Section tries but can not find Nikita but they believe that she will try to contact Michael to convince him to leave Section too. Madeline shows Michael one version of a sim of what might happen if Nikita contacts him. In that sim, when Michael refuses, she kills him. ("I let you in close enough to hurt.") When Michael leaves, Madeline views the real sim in which Michael takes Nikita's offer.

Up The Rabbit Hole

Michael is at the restaurant when Nikita calls him. She wants to meet him somewhere but not there. She says she will call him later with a place. Back at Section, Operations thinks the best way to find Nikita is through Grenet, the man who engineered her escape. Michael and Davenport are on a team with Quinn on Comm. Jason will be heading to Center the next day to pose as Birkoff to get Operations and Madeline the information that they need. The team captures Grenet and tortures him but they realize that Nikita is out of his reach but they can get to Dr. Henry Kraft, the plastic surgeon who changed Nikita's appearance. When Michael finds Kraft, he tortures him but only comes up with the intel that she paid in French Francs before they kill him. Since Michael knows her the best, Madeline wants him to work with Quinn to come up with a more personal profile of Nikita. From profiling with Quinn, they think she might go back to an inn in Saint Etienne, which she associates with the warmest memory of her mother. But when Michael goes there, he knows she was never there. While talking about the last mission with Walter, Michael gets suspicious of Quinn. He goes to talk to her again and when she talks about him loving Nikita, he says he never did and it was Section's plan to give her something to believe in. That gets a reaction out of her. So he asks her to his office later and tells her he knows where Nikita is. Nikita was taught if exposed, to hide in plain sight. He knows Quinn is Nikita. ("Like I said, Nikita is very emotional. Seems to be what trips her up most of the time.") Nikita has the real Quinn tied up at Quinn's apartment and has been pretending to be her since she got her plastic surgery. She wants him to come with her but he doesn't say anything. Meanwhile Jason, at Center, has found out that George has been leaking Section One maneuvers to Red Cell. Operations tells Michael that soon he might be taking over Oversight so Michael will be given Section One. They then talk about the next mission to get Nikita. On that mission, Michael and Nikita get out of the mission van and start to take out their team. When Madeline finally realizes that she cannot track Michael or "Quinn", she orders Davenport to apprehend them. Poor Davenport agrees and tries to stop Michael. When will he ever learn that he will never beat Michael. Michael runs over Davenport with the car. RIP Davenport. Operations gives Madeline 24 hours to find them or she will be removed from her post. ("Mom and Dad must be freaking out.") Jason is told he has to stay inside Center longer to dig up dirt on Mr. Jones, the head of Center. When George comes to Section One, he is immediately taken into the White Room by Operations where he confronts him on leaking intel to Red Cell then they cancel him. Michael and Nikita are now on a yacht at sea. Nikita takes off her Quinn prosthetics and re-dyes her hair. They have to keep moving so they are never found. They frolic on a beach, building a fire, and having fun. So romantic. They get back onto the yacht and it sails off into the sunset. [Now if you are like me, you can pretend that the next episode and season five is all Michael's horrible nightmare. He wakes up after the horrible nightmare of season five and sees Nikita still lying next to him. They are still at sea, free, and together and never get caught by Section. Hey I can believe it if I want to!]

Four Light Years Farther

Section One is in chaos without Michael to lead the teams. Nikita and Michael decide that they need to get money before they move on. Stokes, a Comm operative, thinks he has found where they might be. They send a team. While Nikita is getting the money, the team surrounds Michael's car and they are taken into Section. Operations and Madeline give Nikita and Michael a choice on who should be cancelled between the two of them. ("You can live without me a lot better than I can live without you.") They decide that it should be Michael but Operations cannot go through with it and they decide to cancel Nikita instead. Walter comes in to say goodbye. Just before she is to die, Mr. Jones aka Mick Schtoppel takes all of Section's systems offline. Operations and Madeline are stunned to find out that Mick is Mr. Jones. Mr. Jones tells them that Nikita was his inside mole in Section. He recruited her three years ago during her "leave" from Section. He chose her for her free will and her sufficient disdain for Section One. Mr. Jones and Nikita decided to make themselves shown now so that they can totally evaluate Section One. Madeline is the first one to meet with them. Nikita says her relationship with Operations concerns Center since they do not compliment each other. Madeline is pissed. ("I really don't need to hear what some ad hoc internal affairs bimbo thinks of my work.") Mr. Jones decides he wants her cancelled but Madeline wants to make her own decision regarding her fate and kills herself by eating a cyanide capsule. ("I shall miss her fortitude. Housekeeping.") Operations sees them wheel out her body and kisses her. Nikita takes Operations outside of Section to a playground to remind him what he is fighting for. His punishment is to run Section for seven more years because he lacks the good judgment that comes with compassion. Walter is questioned next and they decide that he will go work as a teacher at the Farm. ("You kept me grounded, Walter. When you go undercover for as long as I did, you have to find a center, a place you can stay anchored so you don't drift. You were my center.") Lastly, Michael is brought in. ("More than anyone else, you've been true to the highest principles that define this organization." "That's not true. I betrayed Section. I've put your well-being ahead of everything else.") He broke too many rules and is put on abeyance to be cancelled on his next mission. Meanwhile Jason finds out that his old girlfriend, Naomi was a Section operative all along and dumps her. Mr. Jones also lets Operations know that he knows that Jason is not Birkoff. On Michael's abeyance mission, Nikita is there and she gets him out of there before his bomb goes off. She gives him a field router and tells him to leave. She says she does not love him and never did. Michael has nothing to say but a blood tear and then leaves.
