Looking For Michael

Last time on La Femme Nikita, Nikita questioned Section One's methods and almost let the Gemstone file hit the internet but stopped it when she sided with Operations. Operations and Madeline are not too happy with Nikita's threat and so they have stepped up her mission frequency so that the "problem" will take care of itself. They have also made sure that Dechy, Pierce, and Pollock, who were the only witnesses to Nikita's aborted insurrection, are killed while out on a mission. They decide that on this next mission, Nikita will be "taken care of" and Madeline has made sure that Michael is out of the way so he cannot help her. Her mission is to collect source material on site from New Path, an anti-western faction that emerged over the past year. Since Michael is gone, the team gets a new team leader Ferreira and he puts Nikita on point instead of her usual third position. During the mission in Shanghai, Nikita realizes that the mission is a trap. She cannot get a hold of Birkoff and must find a way to escape on her own. When Nikita gets back she talks to Birkoff and confirms that Operations and Madeline are trying to kill her because Operations and Madeline are vulnerable to Oversight. They need to get in touch with Michael to help keep Nikita alive but they have no clue where he is. Nikita decides to seduce Ferreira in order to get his retinal scan to use to get the information where Michael is located and also to get him to her apartment so she can blackmail him later. Nikita finds the address and goes there. A lovely woman answers the door. Nikita thinks she got the wrong house until Michael is seen through the door with a child that is calling him daddy. She later finds out that Michael is on a blood mission in which he has a wife, Elena, and a son, Adam who have no clue he works for Section One. Michael started this mission years ago before he met Nikita to get to Elena's father, Salla Vachek. Nikita poses as Michael's cousin and gets Michael to meet her so she can tell him that Section is trying to kill her. Michael and Nikita blackmail Ferreira into bugging Madeline's office so they can find out what they are up to. They also get Birkoff to send faulty intel to George so that George will tell Operations to change the mission. The mission is changed just in time so that Nikita is saved. Operations and Madeline tell Nikita she is no longer a threat to them since George has no clue that they have Adrian but he is still watching. They know that Birkoff helped but they need him and Operations believes that he can control him.

Someone Else's Shadow

Section One is investigating an embassy bombing that they believe Salla Vachek is responsible for. Vachek finances anti-Western terrorism on a global scale and Section has never been able to capture him since he is always in hiding. Section needs a way to lure him out. Michael tells Madeline that he thinks he can convince his mission wife Elena to try to reconciliate with her father, Salla Vachek, who left her and her mother when she was six but he needs Nikita with him to help him convince Elena. Madeline thinks it's a good idea since Nikita can be another woman, about the same age and can draw on her experiences, being orphaned early. Nikita goes to live with Michael as Michael's cousin who is trying to get a job in the fashion industry. They convince Elena to contact her father. With some checking, Vachek decides that he wants to meet with Elena and arranges a meeting. ("Voila") But Vachek does not come to the meeting. Instead he sends his second in command, Mischa. Operations and Madeline decide that Vachek wants to see his daughter, but he feels no urgency so they'll have to change that even though Michael will resist.

Opening Night Jitters

Vachek has stepped up his terrorism. Section One has correlated three incidents in the last week and they've got intel on some new ones. They need to get Vachek and the only way is through Elena. Operations and Madeline decide that they need to poison Elena so that Vachek feels an urgency to see her. Michael poisons Elena's wine but at the last second cannot go through with it and spills the wine so that Elena cannot drink it. Section then poisons Elena when Michael went on a mission so she ends up in the hospital. He is upset. ("If she dies, they die.") Vachek finds out that Elena is in the hospital dying and decides to go and see her with a little convincing from Michael. While Vachek is visiting, he finds out that she has recovered (with the help of the antidote courtesy of Section One) but then a Section Operative comes in and shoots Vachek and Michael. Michael is fine but Elena does not know that. She thinks Michael is dead. Michael can never see Elena or his son ever again. Operations and Madeline acknowledges the personal sacrifice Michael has made and gives him some time alone. Also in this episode, Section One has Mick Schtoppel move into the apartment next door to Nikita so she can keep an eye on him.

Gates Of Hell

Michael is taking the loss of his son very hard. We see Michael in a barren room watching old videos of him with his son while "Is Jesus Your Pal" by Gus Gus plays in the background. Michael cannot concentrate and does not care about his Section duties anymore. ("Michael, are you getting this?" "No.") Section One is after Mihai Brevich, the man responsible for the recent wave of terrorist attacks in the Ukraine. He's affiliated with Red Cell but he runs an extremely competent organization in his own right. He's been recently joined by his son Laszlo who's already showing signs of being even more talented than his father. Operations takes Michael and Nikita off a recent mission because Michael cannot get past losing his son. Meanwhile, Birkoff finds an umbrella file while searching through some files using Operations' access codes. It has to do with Adrian. If George knew about this, Operations would be stuffed and mounted in about ten seconds and so Walter and Birkoff decide to use this info to blackmail Operations. When they go to see him, Operations tells Birkoff that it was a test. The file was planted 72 hours ago and he should have detected it at least 12 hours before he did. And for trying to blackmail him, both of their down time is cancelled for the next six months. But actually Operations was lying and the umbrella file was real. He just needed Birkoff to let go of it so he could take it back and delete it. Back to Michael, Operations and Madeline decide to push Michael into getting better. They stage a mission which looks like Brevich kills his own son in order for Michael to get mad enough to care about his job again but it doesn't work. Michael sees through their plan and gets more pissed off but now Brevich might know what Michael looks like and might go after him. Michael still does not care. Nikita goes to see Michael but she can't get through to him. ("You have to find a reason to live." "Where?" "Wherever you can.") Nikita stays at Michael's place all night guarding him. Michael, Nikita, and team go on another mission to get Brevich ("Michael, should we attack?" "Why not?") but during the mission, Nikita gets captured. Operations tells Michael to abort the mission but he doesn't listen and hops on a motorcycle to save Nikita. Michael saves Nikita and lets Brevich know that the person who killed his son is dead right before he shoots him. Michael found a reason to live and her name is Nikita. Nothing is keeping them apart now.

Imitation Of Death

Ivan Chernov steals or kidnaps children off the streets, trains and conditions them for several years, then sells them to terrorist organizations to use as they see fit. Section One needs to take out Chernov and sends Michael and Nikita to meet him disguised as cocaine dealers. While at the meeting, Chernov takes a liking to Michael's kick ass bodyguard, Nikita, and buys her off Michael for a million dollars. Now that Nikita is in Chernov's compound she finds out that Chernov is into other things than just brainwashing children. He's also into cloning and wants to use Nikita's egg as a test subject. Section goes in and captures Chernov and they say that they destroyed Nikita's egg. But one of the brainwashed children, Milan got away and is still on his mission to blow stuff up. Nikita knows what the kid looks like and gets there in time to convince Milan to not blow stuff up and come with them back to Section. Nikita wonders if Section knew about Chernov's cloning all along and investigates to see if Section is into it too. She finds that in the genetics lab, there are children who look like little Nikita's and like other operatives but when she gets Michael to go with her to confirm this, the kids and the lab have disappeared. Meanwhile another operative, Felix gets put on abeyance and believes that is it Birkoff's fault. ("You're a little tin god, aren't you? Pushing buttons, deciding who lives, who dies?") Felix threatens to kill Birkoff and makes good on that treat when he poison's his drink. Birkoff is scared and asks Michael what he should do. ("Don't let him.") Birkoff reschedules Felix to go on an earlier mission to get rid of him faster but when the videos of the mission come back, Birkoff cannot confirm that Felix died. He gets a gun from Walter and almost shoots Operations when he panics in a corridor. ("Die, Bastard!")

Love And Country

Nikolai Markali is making a bid for the chairmanship of the supreme judicial chamber. If he succeeds, he will serve as the pivotal position in that part of the world. Section One has intel that indicates he is being funded by Badenheim. If he wins the election, he will be the puppet for terrorists. Unfortunately, Section cannot take him down by the usual means so they decide to use his wife Corinne Markali, to bring him down for them. This mission has a personal component to it because Corinne was married to Operations before he was brought into Section. Operations was listed as missing in action during the Vietnam War but since they never recovered the body she assumed he was killed during the war. Madeline goes undercover as Corrine's new psychiatrist and gives her drugs to alter her sanity. Nikita's mission is to infiltrate Markali's election headquarters as a campaign worker and seduce Markali himself. She "saves" Markali's life and he goes to her apartment with a gift to thank her. Nikita tries to seduce him but doesn't do a very good job. So now it's Michael's turn so he convinces Corrine that her husband is cheating on her and is going to kill her. Therefore, when Markali comes back home one afternoon worried about her she shoots him. Corrine is then committed to a mental hospital. Operations never reveals himself to her but he does go to watch her get admitted to the hospital.

Cat And Mouse

Dominic Garsha from the season one episode War is back again with a vengeance. In War, Section, with great help from Nikita, tricked his men into a trap and killed them all. Then Nikita shot and thought she killed Garsha when her and Michael were escaping from Garsha's hideout. I guess Nikita was a bad shot since Garsha's alive, in a wheelchair, and very pissed off. He wants to infiltrate Section so he can always be one step ahead of them and is going to use Nikita to do it. He kidnaps Nikita and puts a look alike, Abby, in her place. He threatens that he will kill Michael if Nikita does not comply. Nikita must educate Abby in the ways of Section, and in her personal habits, so that there is no chance of deception being discovered. Garsha wants to know the details of the latest mission but Nikita tells him that it is not possible to get. When he threatens Michael's life again, Nikita says she might know of a way. Birkoff is in the ready room and is resting while the next mission is cycling into the computer. Abby comes in and gives Birkoff an afternoon delight so that she can distract him long enough to let Garsha see the mission profile as it cycles. ("What are you afraid of?" "Nothing. I just can’t believe this is happening") Birkoff then tells Walter of his "performance" with "Nikita". Walter can't believe it. Michael is also getting suspicious. He asks Abby to meet with him later on to talk and when they do Nikita finds her perfect opportunity to let Michael know that something is wrong and that Abby is not her. Garsha thinks that Michael and Nikita are a couple but we all know that they have never really been a couple so when Abby suggests that they meet up for their weekly dose of lovin, Michael knows that something is up. He has to make sure though so he compares techniques and decides that Abby is not Nikita. Michael and Abby are called back in for a Flash Mission which is a short notice protocol meaning mission profiles are distributed on the way out. (*grin* I love that. I wonder why?) While Abby is in van access, Michael confronts her and they take her into custody. At the same time at Garsha's, Operatives come crashing through the roof and Nikita manages to disarm Garsha before he can kill her. Back at Section, Nikita debriefs Operations and Madeline. When she comes out of Madeline's office, she sees Birkoff. He is understandably nervous and embarrassed but Nikita tells him not to worry. From what she could tell, he was pretty delicious. Lastly, Madeline gives Nikita the option of killing Abby herself. Madeline thinks that by killing her, she can best exorcise her. We don't see who really kills Abby.

Outside The Box

Par Epistemen Taksis or loosely translated, Through Science, Order have access to a broad range of destructive technologies, and they have the will to use them. Section's objective is the CICL, their Cover Ident Correlation List. It contains their leaders, their agents, their entire network of local contacts but acquiring it presents certain unique difficulties. The file is guarded by an advanced digital sensor system. Any attempt to copy or download it will trigger a self-destruct mechanism. So Section One recruits Benjamin Kruger by framing him for murder just like they did to Nikita. He has a genetic mutation that occurs roughly in one in fifty million individuals. He has a perfectly developed, photographic memory which he will use to memorize the CICL for Section. But Nikita also wants to use his talents to read her file so that so can find out why she was brought into Section. But the guy who was going to help her gets cancelled so she can't find out why she is really in Section. Meanwhile, Birkoff gets a new assistant Tatyana and has to put up with Greg Hillenger helping out at Comm. Hillenger tricks Tatyana into using Birkoff's station and lets Birkoff know that she used it. Birkoff thinks that Tatyana compromised the data shield so he has to tell Spec Ops on her. But later he finds out that it was Hillenger who compromised the shield. Hillenger claims he did it because Tatyana was setting Birkoff up. Hillenger claims to have hacked her station and found that she had a sub-channel to the outside and she was going freelance. Birkoff does not believe Hillenger at all.

Slipping Into Darkness

An embassy has been bombed. Michael has poisoned Operations with a psychotic drug so now Operations demands that Gustov Pogue is responsible for the embassy bombing even though he has been dead for four years. Everyone else in Section One believes that Shadow Brigade is responsible for the embassy bombing. Operations starts to act all crazy, sends the team on wild goose chases to track down Pogue, and even slaps Birkoff. When Nikita will not let innocents get killed during one of the wild goose chases, Operations tells Madeline to have her cancelled. Madeline does not kill Nikita but tells her that Operations has been compromised and they need to flush out the mole that did this to him. Nikita then stops a waiting coup from happening. When Operations tries to send them on another chase, Michael steps in and relieves Operations and Madeline of their duties. He takes the Operations position and makes Nikita second in command. When they go to get it confirmed, Nikita finds out that is was Michael who poisoned Operations because he is working for Philo, who is Red Cell. Michael pretends to shoot Nikita and this is where we learn that Michael has not really switched sides. Michael was pretending to work for Philo because there was no other way to get him. Later when Michael is talking to a sane Operations, he wonders why Operations took the drugs since he could have just faked it. Operations replies "Credibility, Michael. Leave nothing to chance." Operations and Madeline are impressed by Michael's skills. They believe that he has the ambition to be Operation's successor even if Michael doesn't know it yet.

Under The Influence

Simon Peruze, along with his brother Karl, operate under the name Black Sun. Simon is the inside operator and is Section's target. Section's sources indicate he owns an arsenal of Anthrax rockets that Karl has been dispatched to sell to Nestor Hassan. Karl will make his deal with Hassan, when the finances are transacted, Karl will return to Simon. Section One has captured Karl and has wiped his memory so that Nikita can pose as his girlfriend to meet and capture Simon after Karl sells the rockets. But Nikita's mind is also being tampered with because Section has her on drugs to make her love Karl because they didn't think she could have pulled it off without the drugs. ("Don't you ever get tired of being their errand boy Michael?" Slap!) Nikita finds out later that Section has been putting subliminal messages in paintings about Michael and Section all over her apartment to mess with her head. ("Alpha Test Complete") Meanwhile, Birkoff was checking out a green listed terrorist Martelli's activities for the past year, just to make sure he isn’t abusing their protection since Martelli was supposed to come in for a meeting soon. While looking through the file, Birkoff finds out that Martelli has killed Steven Wolfe, Operations’ son. When Martelli comes to the meeting, Operations shoots him. Luckily Madeline saves Operations' ass by convincing George beforehand that Martelli was stealing from Section. If she didn't, Operations would have been in big trouble with George.

Walk On By

Stephanie Groves is a first year special service op in Poland. She's been coordinating the Krakow operation, due to culminate in five days. She was grabbed this morning but Section doesn't have a predictor for her response so they have to extract or eliminate her before they can proceed with Krakow. While on the mission to save Groves, Nikita recognizes a new Section recruit Jamie, an old acquaintance she knew from growing up on the streets. Jamie lets her know that her mother is not drinking anymore and is looking for her. Nikita agrees to help out Jamie so that he will tell her where her mother is. Her mother, Roberta Wirth never believed that Nikita killed herself. She kept trying to get them to produce a body, and when they didn't, she was convinced Nikita was still alive. She even hired a detective to find her. Nikita goes to the detective and convinces him to drop the case. She then gets Michael to help her. Nikita pretends that she is a vegetable so that Roberta can find peace, ask for forgiveness, and say goodbye to her daughter. Nikita kisses Michael as a thanks for all his help. Meanwhile, Walter meets up with an old flame Lita except that she is really Beverly, a Section plant that is trying to find out if Walter would compromise Section by telling her who he works for. Walter does tell "Lita" about Section but she lies for him saying that he never told her anything about Section. Operations decides not to cancel Walter because he owes him for recently canceling Belinda, Walter's wife.

Threshold Of Pain

The leaders of Black March, Simon Crachek and his partner Caroline freelance for various terrorist organizations. They appear to be motivated by money and the sheer joy of causing pain and destruction. Some sources say they're brother and sister, others that they're lovers. In fact, they're probably both. In twenty four hours, Black March will be meeting in the suburbs of Bukhara. Section One's job is to terminate them. Nikita, Angela, and her lover Mark are on the team. Angela gets shot and when Mark and Nikita go in to rescue her they all get kidnapped. While Caroline is torturing Nikita for information, Simon is in another room torturing Angela and Mark. Simon threatens to kill Angela unless Mark talks. Mark gives up the location of Section Substation 6 so that Simon will not kill Angela but Simon kills her anyway. Then Section One bursts in to rescue everyone but Simon and Caroline get away. Back at Section, Mark wants to tell Operations that he gave up the substation but Nikita convinces him not to because he will be cancelled if he does. They decide that they will kill Simon and Caroline themselves. With intel from Mick Schtoppel, Nikita and Mark go to a club to kill Simon and Caroline. Nikita kills Caroline but Simon gets away. When they get back to Section, they know that they must tell Operations the truth. Mark goes to tell Operations but when he does, he tells him that it was Nikita who gave up the location of the substation. Nikita gets taken to containment and both Nikita and Mark are questioned by Madeline. Both passed their tests with flying colors. But Section was able to capture Simon and they are keeping him alive to ask him who gave up the substation. When Michael questions Simon, he lies and says that Nikita gave up the substation just to piss Michael off. Simon wanted to see Michael's face when he later tells Michael that it was Mark who gave up the substation after he knows that Nikita has been cancelled. Therefore, Michael has to trick Simon into thinking that they have cancelled Nikita in order to get Simon to finally tell the truth. When he does, Nikita is taken out of containment and both Mark and Simon are cancelled. Meanwhile, Walter believes that the Black March mission failure was his fault because the sites on the guns read high. He warned the team but believed he should have made the time to make the adjustments. To get Walter out of this funk, Madeline suggests that Operations should give Walter a "pat on the back." When he does, Walter does not take the compliment very well but it does get him out of his funk. ("Pat on the back? Brilliant!")

Beyond The Pale

Over the last six months, there has been a sharp increase in Red Cell's activities, Section believes that Vincent Tomas has taken the helm in Europe and is responsible for the escalation. He's operating as he did in Asia using a well concealed and mobile cell that communicates with a number of satellite substations. Tactically, Section has to strike all locations simultaneously to keep one from informing the other. For this mission, Operations promotes Zalman as the new Head Strategist over Michael even though Michael is clearly the one who deserved the position. Michael is justifiably pissed and is determined to get himself and Nikita out of Section. Nikita helps by stealing the stuff they need from Walter like a field router which is programmed with all of Section's codes and frequencies. ("What are you looking at, Sugar?" "Just the best part of my day." "Keep on talking like that, and I'll forget how old I am.") Nikita wonders why Michael wants out of Section now and why he needs her to go with him. His answer, "I don't need you. I want you." How could she argue with that? So on the mission, Nikita and Michael slip away while everyone else is busy and they head for a old cabin that Michael says is his. Zalman then interrogates Walter trying to find out if he gave the field router to them and if he knows where they are. Walter doesn't and Operations has to step in to save Walter from Zalman's interrogation. At the cabin, Michael makes some dinner ("I didn't realize you had such talent in the kitchen, Michael." "There's still a lot of things that you don't know about me. Maybe it's time you learned."), they both get cozy, and then head up to "bed". In the morning, Michael goes in to town for supplies and gets captures by Section One and brought in. He is then interrogated by Zalman but he cannot break Michael until Operations tells Zalman to threaten to do something to Michael's son, Adam. When Michael sees his son, he gives up Nikita's location and they go in to get her. When they do, Zalman shoots his own team since he is really Red Cell and just wants the field router for all the Section codes. But all along, Operations and Michael were onto him. Michael faked the escape to get Zalman to reveal himself. The real team bursts in and captures Zalman and takes him in for cancellation but they first let Michael interrogate him. Payback is a bitch. For Walter's help in all of this, Operations gives him a story, a crystal, and a month off. Nikita lets Michael know that she wants more than just a casual relationship. Michael knows.

Hand To Hand

Charles Meyer is an industrialist, philanthropist, and a supplier of materials to terrorists around the world. He's to be eliminated. But he is a hard man to find. A man named Emlen Anagar sometimes is used as an intermediary. Anagar owns an establishment in Kazakhstan and he runs a talent agency in Kiev. He hires girls that are mostly from Russia or Eastern Europe, trying to escape poverty. He promises them jobs as models and forces them into his twisted form of entertainment. Meyer will be meeting him at his establishment in Kazakhstan sometime in the next week. Nikita is to go in as one of the unsuspecting models and Michael is to pretend he is there for the show. When Nikita is at the compound, she and the other girls are fitted with an electric collars to prevent them from leaving. Nikita finds out that the entertainment is cat fights between women in a tank of water. It is a fight to the death. She feels sorry for these other women in here that have to go through with this especially Sondra who just came in with her. Nikita decides that instead of leaving right away, she wants to stay and try to free all the women. ("Send someone for the girl. I'm finished with her.") After Sondra dies, it is Nikita's turn to fight Aurora, a "old-timer", for the pleasure of perverted men. But Nikita cannot kill her so they lower a cage into the water to try to drown Nikita. Michael kills Meyer like he is suppose to while Nikita fakes her death. When the cage is lifted, she kills the guard and gets Aurora's help to kill the other guards and Anagar and to free the other women. Meanwhile in Section, Oversight has sent in Renee to do a collateral intel assessment for Section One. Madeline does not trust Renee and tries to find something on her. Renee continues to get cozy with Operations by helping him out via getting backup channels for Section, observing in missions, and by relieving his ummm "tension". Madeline finds out about all of this and decides to kick Renee out of Section One. She uses the excuse that she violated protocol by contacting the Agency on Section One's behalf without prior clearance. Renee vows that Madeline will pay for this. Operations believes that Madeline was jealous but she insists that she did it because Renee was interfering with their normal procedures and when she was around Operation's judgment wasn't up to its usual standards. But Operations wants Madeline to admit that she feels something more than friendship for him and says that he will not smooth it over with Renee unless she agrees to meet him in the tower later for some lovin.

Before I Sleep

Section captures a courier named Jan Baylin who ran material between a transient tactical group called The Alliance. They want her to lead them to another terrorist, Marco Ashe. But Jan has her own ideas and kills herself rather than be used by Section One. Luckily for Section, they have found a girl named Sarah Gerard who is the splitting image of Jan but is very sick with a terminal case of acute lymphocytic leukemia. Madeline goes in to recruit Sarah saying that even though she is dying she can make a little difference in the world before she goes. Jan agrees to help out Section One. Nikita helps to train her but on Sarah's first mission she gets scared and almost gets herself killed. ("It’s best if you don’t mention Section One.") Even though she almost failed, Madeline believes that Sarah will still succeed. She just needs to be more comfortable with men and sends her to Michael for training. [Lucky girl!] Sarah then goes on her mission to meet Marco Ashe and winds up sleeping with him while she is there. She is devastated to learn later that Section has had him cancelled. Meanwhile, Nikita thinks that Section was the one who gave Sarah leukemia. Everyone else tells her no but when she goes to ask Madeline, she somewhat agrees. Sarah's next mission is to locate Darius the head of the Alliance and blow up her headquarters. But on the mission, Sarah decides that she has nothing to live for and stays after she activates the bomb hoping to get blown up too. Nikita runs in to convince Sarah to live and they make it out just in time. Nikita still thinks that Section will cure Sarah but Madeline lied to Nikita about Section giving Sarah leukemia and having a cure for it because she knew Nikita would never believe that they didn't cause Sarah's illness. But now Madeline has to tell Nikita the truth before she lets anything slip to Sarah. She takes Nikita off the next mission to let her take care of Sarah before she dies.

I Remember Paris

Michael and his team has captures Boris Tyco, a member of Glass Curtain and has brought him in for questioning. While being interrogated by Madeline, he breaks free and tries to kill Madeline. Boris runs through Section trying to tap into their systems to transmit their data and location. Michael finds him and kills him but not before he has sent their directory, the list of sub-contractors, and every operation, past and present to Glass Curtain. Luckily Birkoff embedded a code that they will have to decrypt first which will take a couple of days but for now Glass Curtain has the location of Section One. Section now has two hours to move out and find a temporary makeshift command center. After they get out and blow up Section One's old headquarters, it is Nikita and Operation's job to find Freddy Allen who fed them this false data that got Boris into Section. They go to a gallery where they think he might be but they find nothing. But Mick Schtoppel finds Freddy for Nikita and Mick, Nikita, and Michael go to capture him. Freddy tells them that he and Boris is working for Errol Sparks, the head of Glass Curtain, who we last saw in Simone being blown to little pieces. [I don't get it either.] Since they know it is Sparks, they easily find his hideout and gun down everyone. Section One then moves into another ready made Section somewhere in the world. Michael and Nikita have dinner. Michael says he has missed Nikita.

All Good Things

This is a great day for Michael. Him and Nikita are finally together now, having a relationship, dating, and shagging and Operations tells him that he gets to be in full command of Section One for a short while since Operations is going on a field assignment for Center. There will be a formal change of command and he will have full operational authority. The only thing he has to do is not do anything about the Luigi Bergomi mission. Operations just wants him to make it look like he tried but don't follow up on it. Michael chooses Nikita as his successor because even though another operative, Wallace is senior, he feels that Nikita is more qualified and can trust her more. But when the team comes back from the Odessa mission to find data at Bergomi's old safe house, Nikita finds out that Wallace is dead and makes Michael promise not to give her anymore special treatment. Later, Michael goes to a meeting in Center to discuss inter-sectional cooperation and recent developments in the Sudan but really is an excuse for the others to size him up. Michael does well at the meeting and even comes up with a great idea about how all the Sections can share their data. Afterwards, George asks Michael about the Bergomi mission and convinces him that he should go after Bergomi. ("Operations and Madeline are like Siamese twins. They bicker, they squabble, but they never separate. It wouldn’t look good if you achieved something they couldn’t so they don’t want you to try. They don’t think Bergomi can be taken. I do. Meanwhile, keep this in mind. Operations won’t decide who replaces him or when it happens. Oversight will.") Michael asks Nikita to head up the Bergomi mission and not to tell Madeline but Madeline does find out from Mintz, Section's data retrieval specialist. Madeline tries to talk Michael out of it but she can't. Michael is taking a big risk but he wants to prove himself. Nikita goes to capture an associate of Bergomi's but the mission does not go as planned and they might have a leak. Madeline then tries to get Nikita to convince Michael to abort the mission or to sabotage the mission herself for Michael's sake but Nikita stays loyal to Michael. In the mission, she takes it upon herself to get the hard drive they needed to get Bergomi. With that data, they easily pick up Bergomi. Operations is now back and pissed at Michael for doing what he told him not to do. ("The fact remains, if something happens to George, you’re in trouble." "And if something happens to you, even if your performance slips a bit, I may be in charge of Section." "Was that a statement or a threat?" "Was yours?") Both Operations and Madeline are aware of how good Michael and Nikita are together but they believe that even the best have weaknesses.

Third Party Ripoff

Olivier Velden is a mid-level player in black market weapons. Section wants to turn him and send him back out. In a mission to get Velden's account number, Nikita is stuck in a room verifying data when hostiles barge in and almost kill her. She takes care of herself but Michael breaks from his position to go after her and help her even though he was needed elsewhere. Because Madeline wants to drive a hard wedge between Nikita and Michael's relationship, she uses Michael's breach to order a Type One Directive which is an internal dictum, a decision. Once it’s been made, it can't be changed and is always executed. The two of them have to extricate the personal component from their relationship. To make sure that they do, Madeline starts to take away Michael's authority, team, and office. He is put on Davenport's team for the next missions. Michael says he is ok with this and he will play their game but in a nice bubble bath scene together, Nikita notices that not being in charge is bothering him. The next mission to capture Velden does not go as planned. Davenport was about to abort the mission when Michael speaks up saying that he can alter the plans to make the mission work. Operations calls Birkoff into his office tells him that Hillenger will be taking his post because he is sending Birkoff on a mission. Jean-Marc Rousseau, runs a small but highly effective cult of terrorists. They call themselves Soldat de la Liberte. Birkoff will be their man on the inside. Birkoff thinks that Operations wants to get rid of him and is sending him on this mission to make sure he is killed. Birkoff gets in and finds out that the organization is not as independent as they claim to be. They have ties right into the heart of Red Cell. Birkoff wants out but Operations tells him that he is keeping him inside indefinitely. Birkoff panics and starts to think up a plan to get himself out. He decides to use Nikita to get himself out. He makes her think that he has turned so that the team will come in to extract him. When they do, they bring him to the White Room for questioning. He tells them it was the only way out. He knew that if Operations thought he’d gone over to the other side, he’d be too much of a risk. He knew that Michael would have to come get him. He knew if he hadn’t done this, Operations would have left him inside. Luckily, they believe him when he shows them that he created a straight connection from their system right into Section's system which gives them all of the communiqués from Red Cell, their sources of money and arms, and their list of potential targets. They decide not to cancel Birkoff. Birkoff still does not trust Hillenger.

Three Eyed Turtle

During an important mission that was critical to the entire near East hub, Hillenger messes up and gets the mission aborted and some team members killed because he did not finish an interface that was needed. George, the head of Center, is very upset over this failure and starts to take away missions from Section One. Operations then seems to take his anger over this on Madeline by using her in more ways than one. ("What is it you want me to be? Your whipping post or your whore?") On a mission to capture Francine Chu, Birkoff is on site while Hillenger is heading up the mission in Section. Hillenger lets the bad guys see that Birkoff and his van are in the alleyway and almost gets him killed. When Birkoff gets back to Section, he confronts Hillenger and shows everyone the proof that Hillenger tried to kill him. Hillenger is put on abeyance. On the next mission, Nikita saves Hillenger by telling him that the bomb he is about to set off will kill him. But on the next mission to capture Brulois, it looks like Hillenger is killed by a bomb in an elevator. Meanwhile, Madeline is fed up with Operations using her so she makes a deal with George. She will give him information about Operations and he will give her the company key file. George then goes to meet what he thinks is a courier that he can trust but he turns out to be Brulois and he just exchanged the key file for money. This has been a set up all along to blackmail George. Operations and Madeline have been pretending to fight and have sex so that George will think that Madeline would betray Operations. Now that it looks like George was paying and cooperating with a terrorist, Operations and Madeline can blackmail him for anything they want. But George has also been sneaky. Hillenger has been working all along for George and was not killed by the bomb in the elevator. Hillenger has gotten the Gemstone file for George which tells all the stuff that happened with Adrian. So now they each have something over the other. They are at a stand still.

Playing With Fire

Operations and Madeline believe that their directive to keep Michael and Nikita apart is working. Little do they know that during missions, Michael and Nikita find a way to escape to do the horizontal mambo with secret messages sent to each other with the help of Walter. ("We have one hour.") But Operations is still suspicious so they send in an observer to make sure they are not being tricked and they have Birkoff sweep their panels as soon as they get in from the next mission. Birkoff finds that they are sending secret messages and tells on them. [How rude!] Madeline and Operations are afraid that this might be less about their relationship and more about something else like planning to take over Section so they decide to set them up. They send Nikita and Michael on a mission alone to catch them in the act. They of course send Davenport to catch the two of them but Nikita and Michael are smarter. They found out that this mission was a trap from Walter who had a few tricks up his sleeve that he never showed Birkoff and so they actually went and got the bad guy and brought him back to Section confusing the hell out of Operations and Madeline. Also during all of this Mick asked Nikita to be his pretend wife when his mother comes to visit. Strangely she never shows up.

On Borrowed Time

Michael and Nikita are still trying to be together without Operations and Madeline knowing. ("We’ll be together somehow. I’ll make it happen.") But Operations and Madeline know that something is going on. They hate the fact that they are meeting right under their noses and they can’t stop them. That means there’s a hole in the system. If they can find it, others can to which is scary. They must put a stop to it and the Genefex mission will be their best bet. Nikita and Michael are supposed to find out who besides Red Cell Genefex is selling gandium four, a grade one bio-weapon to. Also they are making Walter go into retirement because of his part in helping Michael and Nikita. Birkoff is very upset about this because he has heard terrible things happen to people they put into retirement like medical experiments, pain tolerance, and harvested body parts. So when the new guy Dennis Giles, comes to take Walter's place, Birkoff sets him up to fail by making it seem like Giles was incompetent by setting off a wall punch in munitions. Giles gets cancelled for his mistake and Walter is brought back in but he is not as happy as he should be. It seems that retirement was great and Walter wishes that he was not brought back to Section. Meanwhile on the Genefex mission, Michael has located the gandium and Nikita was able to download their buyer's list while Michael was hit on by the guy in charge.("I’m straight." "Sorry." "Oh, don’t be.") Since Michael has the gandium and Section does not know it yet, he sets up a time and place where he and Nikita can be alone for awhile together. But when Michael notices that operatives from Section One are following him around without his knowledge, he gets worried. And he should because while Michael was talking to the other operative from the backup team, Madeline kidnapped Nikita and put her in a brainwashing machine that had her undergo the Gelmen process. They test her on the next mission and Nikita passes the test by setting off a bomb even when she thought that Michael was still inside. This proves that she does not care or love Michael anymore. She is now the perfect little Section Soldier. Michael exclaims, "I won’t let them do this."
